This tour highlights buildings, sites and areas which are unique to Lebanon and Wilson County. In all there are twenty-eight county wide sites, many listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The sites along the tour route are identified with a numbered sign. Corresponding numbers are found on the tour map. The first nine sites are within easy walking distance of each other and sites #11 -13 are centered on the former campus of the Castle Heights Military Academy and are also an enjoyable stroll. Sites #14-15 are focused around Cumberland University and encourage walking.
The remainder of the sites (#16-#28) take you on an historic drive through Wilson County.
The purpose of the Historic Sites driving Tour is two-fold. First, is to educate the public on the history of Lebanon/Wilson County and encourage tourism, and two, is to raise awareness for the importance of preservation.
Historic Lebanon extends a very appreciative “thank-you” to the owners of these properties; many of which are privately held, please be respectful as you enjoy the tour.
Historic Lebanon is proud to bring this Historic Driving Tour to the public.
